Powered Air Purifying Respirators
CleanAIR is a powered respiratory protection system which works by over-pressurising the air within the breathing zone of the head unit. This slight overpressure effectively prevents harmful contaminants from entering the breathing zone and ensures comfort during prolonged usage without exerting extra effort to overcome breathing resistance.
The respirator filter unit is worn on a belt or harness. It filtrates the air from the surrounding environment and delivers it through a hose into the headpiece – which is either a protective visor, full helmet or hood.
This is contrary to the principle of a negative pressure half or full face respirator whereby the wearer must overcome the resistance of the filters when breathing, and so requires an air tight seal. Using this type of respirator means wearers must be face fit tested and clean shaven.

No face fit testing
Face fit testing is a time consuming and costly process. It is legal requirement for anyone that is going to wear tight fitting respiratory protection.
✅ As CleanAIR is not a tight fitting respirator and works on the principal of positive pressure, legislation allows it to be used without the need for face fit testing. -
No clean shaven policy
Tight fitting respirators rely on a good seal against the face so that, when you breathe in, air is drawn through the filter where it is cleaned. If there are any gaps around the edges of the mask, 'dirty' air will pass through these gaps and into your lungs.
Facial hair, stubble and beards, make it impossible to get a good seal round the face, and will lead to "inward leakage" of contaminants in the users environment.
✅ Again, with CleanAIR not being a tight fitting respirator and working on the principal of positive pressure, legislation allows it to be used with the presence of facial hair. -
Cost in use benefits
A common misconception is that PAPRs are considerably more expensive than disposable respirators and this belief has caused many businesses to put up with inferior respiratory protection for too long. On the surface, a £1000 PAPR with a headtop clearly has a significantly higher capital cost when compared to a £4 disposable respirator. However, the initial cost of a disposable respirator is not a true representation of its actual cost to a business. These are single use and require both fit testing and pulmonary function testing annually which brings their costs up quickly.
Considering that these might be replaced as many as 5 times per day, costing up to £75 a week, over the course of a working year this number can easily reach upwards of £4500 per operator. Even if this were on the lowest end possible of 1 respirator per day, this figure would still reach near £1000 PA for disposable respirator usage alone.

Superior protection guaranteed
PAPRs offer a greater level of respiratory protection over disposable respirators. With an APF of 40 (depending on headtop), and the ability to filter up to 99.97% of particulates down to 0.12 microns (when compared to the 95% efficiency of disposables), these are proven to provide a greater level of protection. Because of this, they can be used in a wide range of industrial applications, including but not limited to;- Chemical Industry

Supply chain reliability
Having a reliable supply chain is a critical component of a business's operations, especially in light of the recent economic climate and its impact on global supply chains. With disruptions and uncertainties in the market, it has become more important than ever for Purchasing and Health & Safety teams to prioritise solid and dependable supply chains.
CleanAIR is manufactured in Europe, meaning:
- ✅Reliable supply chain
- ✅Consistent lead times
- ✅Stocked in Europe and the UK
-
Reducing parts and spares
CleanAIR is one of the most intuitive PAPR design concepts on the market, with the emphasis being on the reduction of spares and parts.
